Ford to Build $3.5B EV Battery Plant in Michigan

By Associated Press

The plant will provide ‘generational opportunities’ for west Michigan and ‘make sure that production lines aren’t stalled by global shocks or shipping delays,’ said Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

The factory near the city of Marshall would produce batteries with a lithium-iron-phosphate chemistry, which is cheaper than the current nickel-cobalt-manganese chemistry now used in many EV batteries.

By Tom Hale — IFLScience

Might commercial electric air flights finally have their time to shine?

Dubbed Alice, the plane is the brainchild of the Washington-based aerial engineering company Eviation. Powered by two magni650 electric propulsion units, it can reach a top speed of 481 kilometers per hour (298 miles per hour) without producing any carbon emissions. Since there are no jet engines or fossil fuels, it’s also way quieter and cheaper to fly than a conventional aircraft.
